The castle itself is largely destroyed but the whole mountain top is a village and the entire area is quite unique with the ruins and the views. The historical museum dedicated to their local hero is worth visiting. The castle is located near Tirana, it is most convenient to get here directly from the airport by car. After visiting Shkodra castle this one was not as interesting but the drive was lovely and the bazaars and restaurants just before the entrance were great. The entrance is free, but the museum and other areas inside the castle weren't. Although I'd miss the rather Kruja castle was the home of Skanderber, a hero who defended his home against invading Ottomans - he won all of his 25 battles against the approaching armies.
The castle is home to the Skanderbeg museum, in addition offers great views all round. The look is lovely. The castle was undergoing a very neat and beautiful renovation. There are explanations in the rooms and the view from the balcony is stunning. Like many other castles in Albania, this one is located on a hill with spectacular degree views. It becomes a A bit of walking has to be done to reach the castle, but it is worth paying a visit to understand the history better.
There is a very nice view of the Adriatic coast. There are boutiques selling some traditional stuff. You can also visit the museum for leks. There is a serpentine road to the castle it can take about half an hour. Perfect place with great history.
